It couldn’t have been a better game or a better experience
for the Baldwin Wallace Sport Management students who worked Super Bowl LI on
Sun., Feb. 5th.
An 8:00 a.m. hotel departure for NRG Stadium kicked off the
day for the BW Experiential Learners. Despite the fact the game started at 5:30
p.m. CST enthusiasm abound as the destination was North America’s biggest
annual sports mega-event.
While the students could not have predicted they would have
the opportunity to witness the greatest game in Super Bowl history and the
first Super Bowl to go into overtime, they anticipated a day full of activity.
The students were verified by the NFL credential staff, upon
arrival at the stadium, and issued their Super Bowl LI credentials.
Senior Sport Management major Paul Koehler said, “This is my
fifth Super Bowl trip and it’s always special when you get your credential. It
kind of makes everything official.”
Once inside the secure perimeter for the day’s game,
everyone headed to their work sites. With multiple VIP parties on-site, the
students, faculty, and staff all had plenty to do. Some worked the Champions
Club Venue, which hosted the FOX Sports, DirecTV, and Bud Light parties, while several worked the Patriots Pre-Game party. Others served as wayfinders, helping
fans get to the proper location for their pre-game events.
The pre-game events, which featured a variety of all you can
eat stations and bars offering a variety of drinks, also had live music
and a photo booth that virtually dressed you in either Patriots or Falcons
uniforms. Tailgating is a major part of the football fan experience and these
events took tailgating to the next level.
With game time rapidly approaching, the pre-game festivities
came to a close, as did the work duties for the BW students. This meant that
the students were free to head into NRG Stadium and find a spot to watch Super
Bowl LI.
If you watched the game, you know what happened. If you didn’t,
we won’t spoil it here. What we will do is let the students’ pictures tell you
the story of their Super Bowl Sunday experience!
